The Alpha Course Woodlands Presbyterian Church will be presenting another class early in 2010. Then will be the time for us to add another chapter to the book of our lives. The most important person is this chapter is Jesus Christ. We can know a lot about HIM and yet we need to know HIM better. The Alpha Course can help us grow in our relationship with Jesus to know him better. The Alpha Course can help us grown in our relationship with Jesus. Here are some key questions to answer as you seek to step forward and upward: *Are you interested in growing in your personal relationship with Jesus? *Are you wanting to move upward to your level of faith? *Are you ready to read the Bible with more insight and understanding? *Are you open to experience the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit? *Are you committed to explore new facts and facets of Christianity? *Are you keen on knowing and reconfirming your Christian roots?
Over 150 have enjoyed the Alpha Course at Woodlands Presbyterian these past five years. Any Alpha graduate will tell you of its huge value. Our prayer is that everyone in our Churches will take this Course and help in future Courses. Gus Richard, at All Saints Church 915-8431 or revgus@suddenlink.net ALPHA IS HERE! We invite you attend the fall Alpha Course, the date of which will be announced soon, for a ten-week session. What is Alpha? It is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening setting over ten weekly sessions. It is low keyed in a friendly fun filled atmosphere. It is non-denominational emphasizing Christian principles and faith. Alpha is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is about people, not about a program. Who attends Alpha? People attend it for a variety of reasons. People who attend Alpha run the gamut from wanting to learn about Christianity; to asking specific questions they want answered, moving to a higher deeper level of their relationship with God. What are the bare essentials of Alpha? Alpha meets once a week. Each meeting lasts about 2-1/2 hours but the first hour is a dinner meal. The entire group sits down for an evening meal. There is a general meeting beginning with songs and a DVD presentation by Nicky Gumbel, the director of Alpha, giving a talk on issues relating to the Christian faith. The talks are not only interesting but a provocative. Examples of talks are Why did Jesus die? How does God guide us? What does the Holy Spirit do? Does God heal today? What about the Church? Following the talk the group divides into small groups for the most important aspect of Alpha. He small group is the core of Alpha. The sessions offer an opportunity to make friends and bond as a group in a relaxed and non-threatening environment. Each group has a trained leader and helper to facilitate the group in their discussions. What is the cost? The program is free. However, there is a request for a donation of four dollars for each meal. The donation is voluntary and not a requirement. Alpha! This is an opportunity for you to explore the meaning of life. The program started in England over thirty (30) years ago. Since that time, it has spread around the world. More than ten (10) million people have completed the Alpha course in churches, homes, universities, prisons and remote villages in third world countries. Please come and join us this fall for the Alpha Course. The sign up sheet is located in the Narthex. |
